Airwatch App Catalog Macos

Recently had the pleasure of attending AirWatch connect at Airwatch offices in Milton Keynes. I was interested to see more about how AirWatch will integrate into the VMware Horizon stack plus get an overview of the product. I haven’t had the chance to work on an MDM project yet but comparing AirWatch to XenMobile just from workshops gives me an initial impression that AirWatch is more configurable than XenMobile (make of that what you will).

I was concerned that AirWatch Connect was more of a sales talk than anything else since most of the audience appeared to be decision makers rather than techies but in the end it was half and half. Fairly useful session and bodes well for the future.

When App Portal is connected to an AirWatch instance, you can use the New Catalog Item Wizard to create a mobile application catalog item containing Apple iOS and Google Android mobile apps. All iOS and Android mobile apps configured on the connected AirWatch instance, both internal and public store, can be associated with. Download this app from Microsoft Store for Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile, Windows 10 Team (Surface Hub). See screenshots, read the latest customer reviews, and compare ratings for VMware AirWatch® Agent™.

Anyway here are my notes and thoughts from the session.

Airwatch App

Hello,

First post here. We are a cyber school and we have a 1:1 iPad program where students use the devices at home. We are required to disable Safari to use a filtering browser. I use Airwatch MDM. They have an app catalog that uses a webclip to launch it. Since Safari is disabled, the webclip won't launch as it looks for Safari when you attempt to open it. I know that Apple won't budge on the default browser thing.

Our solution was to create an internal app that simply pointed the URL of the app catalog to the internal app itself, bypassing Safari. That won't work for some reason. It has opened a few times, but for the most part, it just won't launch or it crashes immediately. AW support isn't much of a help on this one.

Bottom line is that I'd like to find a way to deploy and manage apps (free and paid) where we don't have to manually install each app on each device.

Anyone in a similar situation? If we were a brick and mortar school, it would be simple - Safari enabled, but behind our firewall. Being a cyber school changes everything because we have constant challenges that B&M don't have to deal with.

Thanks!
