Select the new location for Steam when it says it cannot find local files. Copying your Steam folder will take a while which is why it makes sense to remove any games you don’t need. This doesn’t work with every game so you may want to uninstall the game from Steam and reinstall it from the new location. The data files for Omnisphere are stored in your STEAM folder. When you update your patches or soundsources, you are updating files in your STEAM folder, which was created when you originally installed Omnisphere. Your STEAM folder is located inside your Spectrasonics folder. See the instructions below to find your Spectrasonics folder. Inside your Spectrasonics folder you'll find STEAM, which may be the STEAM folder, or it may be an alias (Mac) or Shortcut (Window) to the STEAM folder.

From Mac OS X 10.7 and higher, Apple have made the User - Library folder a hidden folder by default. This is to stop general Mac users fiddling with settings, however, music makers will require using this folder from time to time.

Storing sound files on a secondary drive

If you are wanting to store your Omnisphere audio files on a second hard drive, you can put the Spectrasonics/STEAM folder onto your second drive. You will then need to create an alias or 'short cut' to this location on your main Mac or Windows drive. You can create an alias (Mac) or a short cut (Windows) by right-clicking (ctrl+click for Mac users) the STEAM folder and selecting it from the menu.

Once you have done this, you will then need to either locate or create the following folder on your main drive:

On Mac, the Spectrasonics folder needs to be created here:

On Windows Vista and Windows 7, the Spectrasonics folder needs to be located here:

C:ProgramDataSpectrasonics

You will then need to move the STEAM alias folder (or the STEAM short cut folder) into the Spectrasonics folder on your main drive.

Note: On Mac, once you have placed the 'STEAM alias' folder on your main drive, you will need to rename it removing the word alias from the file, otherwise it will not work. You should now have a 'STEAM' folder on your main drive that is pointing to its actual location on your second drive.
Now when you close and re-launch your host application, Omnisphere should be pulling the audio files from off of the second hard drive.

This is a brief tutorial on the basics of installation and usage of SteamCMD.

  1. Create a folder for SteamCMD.
  1. Download the SteamCMD (Windows) Update Tool.
  1. Extract the contents of the zip to the folder.
  1. Create a user for SteamCMD and login.
    Note: For security best practice, do not run SteamCMD a root.
  1. Create a directory for SteamCMD.
  1. Download the SteamCMD (Linux) Update Tool.
  1. Extract the contents to the directory.
  1. Open Terminal.app and create a directory for SteamCMD.

  1. Extract the contents to the directory.

Windows

Browse to the SteamCMD folder and click on steamcmd.exe.

Alternatively Open a Command Prompt to start SteamCMD.

Linux

Open a terminal and start SteamCMD.

Open Terminal.app and start SteamCMD.

To download most game servers, you can log in anonymously.

Some servers require you to login with a Steam Account. To find out if your server requires a login see Dedicated Servers List.

Note: For security reasons, it is recommended that you create a new Steam username just for SteamCMD.

Note: A user can only be logged in once at any time.

Next, enter your password.

If Steam Guard is activated on the user account check your e-mail for a Steam Guard access code and enter it. This is required first time only.

You should see a message stating that you have successfully logged in with your account.

  1. Install the app by using a Steam Application ID or <app_id>. To also validate the app add validate to the command. To participate in HLDS beta testing add -beta beta to the command. To participate in SRCDS beta testing add -beta prerelease to the command.
